The HPV vaccine, Gardasil 9, helps protect against human papillomavirus types that can cause cervical, throat, anal, and other cancers, as well as genital warts. It is most effective when given before exposure to the virus and is routinely recommended for preteens and young adults.
Fainting can occur after vaccination, especially in teens. Patients are often asked to remain seated for about 15 minutes after the injection.
Always inform your pharmacist of any allergies, medical conditions, or medications before receiving the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine.
Ages 9 to 14 usually receive 2 doses given 6 to 12 months apart. Ages 15 to 26, or those starting later, usually receive 3 doses given at 0, 1 to 2 months, and 6 months.
Vaccine consent forms and Vaccine Information Statements, or VIS, are provided before vaccination at participating pharmacy locations.
