Who should get this vaccine?
- Children who receive a first dose at 12 to 15 months and a second dose at 4 to 6 years
- Adults born in 1957 or later who have not been vaccinated or do not have evidence of immunity
- College students, healthcare workers, and international travelers who may need 2 doses
- Adults who do not have evidence of immunity and want to make sure they are protected

Side effects & contraindications
Common side effects
- Soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site
- Fever, which can occur 7 to 12 days after vaccination
- Mild rash
- Temporary joint pain, which is more common in adult women
Fever or a mild rash can appear 1 to 2 weeks after vaccination. This is part of the immune response and does not mean you have measles.
Rare side effects
- Febrile seizures, which are uncommon
- Temporary low platelet count
- Severe allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis
Who should NOT get this vaccine
- Severe allergic reaction after a previous dose of MMR or to any vaccine component, including neomycin or gelatin
- Pregnancy, and people should avoid becoming pregnant for at least 1 month after receiving MMR vaccine
- Severely immunocompromised individuals should speak with a healthcare provider before vaccination
- People who are currently moderately or severely ill may need to wait until they recover

Dosing Schedule

- Apply a cool compress to the injection site if it feels sore
- Move your arm throughout the day to help reduce stiffness
- Stay hydrated and rest if you feel tired
- Take over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen if needed
