Japanese encephalitis, or JE, is a mosquito-borne viral disease found in parts of Asia and the Western Pacific. The vaccine is recommended for certain travelers, especially those spending longer periods in risk areas, traveling during transmission season, or expecting outdoor or rural exposure.
Side effects are usually mild and often go away within a few days.
Always inform your pharmacist of any allergies, medical conditions, or medications before receiving the Japanese Encephalitis vaccine.
The standard schedule is 2 doses given 28 days apart. The full series should be completed at least 1 week before possible exposure during travel. A booster dose may be considered if you remain at risk or expect future re-exposure.
