Depending on your vaccine history and destination, you may need to be fully vaccinated, receive a one-time adult IPV booster, or carry proof of recent vaccination for travel.
IPV, or inactivated polio vaccine, cannot cause polio.
Always inform your pharmacist of any allergies, medical conditions, or medications before receiving the Polio (IPV) vaccine.
Adults who previously completed a polio vaccine series may receive one lifetime IPV booster if they are at increased risk of exposure during travel. Adults who were never vaccinated or are not fully vaccinated may need a full IPV series. When proof is required for departure from certain countries, a documented dose within the required time window may be needed.
Vaccine consent forms and Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) are provided at the pharmacy before vaccination.
Polio vaccination may be recommended or documented for travelers going to destinations with current polio risk or specific travel requirements.
Travelers should review vaccine needs early. Some trips may require a booster dose, full vaccination, or recent documentation depending on destination and travel route.
Some countries may require proof of recent polio vaccination for departure or entry in certain situations. Documentation may need to be recorded on an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, or ICVP.
